Tenterhooks

Will he, won't he?  I am not that bothered if Trump is indicted in New York or not,  although it would grieve me if, having been indicted he was then found not guilty.  I am waiting for him to be charged on the major cases, trying to change the results of the election, sedition and mishandling of official documents.  I am tired of hearing that he is a special case because he is a former president.  No he is not.  He is a criminal and should be treated like anyone else, although so far, the law seems to have tip-toed round him.

If you look at the UK newspaper headlines you would think that the whole of France is suffering from burning cars, riots, piles of stinking rubbish and of course, strikes.  In Paris this would be sort of accurate, although not the whole of Paris is under siege.  Here in Saumur we have a weekly protest, noisy, banner waving, nothing else.  Is that why the centre is being dug up by the council do you think?

Sunday was Mothers' Day, mine was more like mothering day.  It started well with a florist bringing me bouquet from my sons.  This followed by a friend asking me to drive her to the hospital and then in the evening a frantic knock on my door revealed a neighbour who, unable to talk because she was crying and panicking, bade me follow her into another neighbour's apartment.  There I found Marie lying on the floor,  wedged between the toilet and the wall.  While I put a cushion under her head and mopped her brow, trying to ask her if she hurt anywhere, I asked my other neighbour to call the Pompiers.  Unlike in the UK they arrived in about 6 minutes and after some checks and manoeuvring, carted her off to the hospital.  I cleaned up the bathroom.  At midnight, after a thorough examination at the hospital, they sent her home.  All is well that ends well.

This week sees Trump potentially in court, Putin under an international arrest warrant and Johnson facing de-selection if he is found guilty of misleading parliament.  What are the chances that these three slippery eels get away with it?  Has anyone seen Xi change expression?

French railway workers are striking 2 days in 5 for the next few months in protest against Macron's reforms.  To launch these strikes huge protests were organised in Paris but oh dear the strikers couldn't get there because the trains weren't running due to strike action.

stormy weather

Last evening there was a huge storm, lightning,  wind and torrential rain in Agra. This morning the devastation was clear. No power, 50 dead and hundreds of trees down. On the way to the taj mahal  I could see crushed cars, flooded streets  and so many trees.   Then out of all this destruction I arrived at the taj mahal. It doesn't matter how many pictures you see  they cannot compare to seeing this exquisite building rising up above you.  I have waited so long to see it and  it  is far better than I could have imagined.
