Feeling the heat

The long, hot summer continues with major rivers looking more like dust bowls and wild fires devastating forests, homes and wildlife.  On top of that the Antarctic is melting, and yet little is being done to tackle climate change when you look at the major powers.  Ok Biden passing his latest efforts will help but when looked at through the lens of the wider picture, it is very little and far too late.

Someone who is definitely feeling the heat is Trump but in his usual fashion he lies, exaggerates and raises a fortune in contributions from all the suckers who listen to his tosh.

Nothing much in the political  world can shock me these days but I was close to it when I read an article on the BBC website that said anyone in the world can become a member of the conservative party, even if they are not British, are not eligible to vote in UK elections and have never lived in Britain.  Yet here we are having the next British Prime Minister being chosen by people totally unconnected with the country.  That means Britain's leader could be there because of support from Russia or China or anyone for that matter.  This revelation is shocking.

I played golf this week, the third time this year.  The fairways are brown and hard, as are the tees, but even if you hit a duff shot the ball runs and runs with no grass to heed its progress.  Of course I could have done with it not running on the second hole when it raced away straight into the water.

My plumber, who is on vacation, rode in on his trusty white steed, white van anyway, to rescue me yesterday when the hot water tank developed a leak and then shorted the electricity.  Several hours later, having replaced the water tank with a new one and restored my electrics, I gave him a beer and thanked him for being such a angel.  He said he came, with his wife's agreement, during his holiday because it was an emergency and because I pay my bills immediately, not  like most of his customers.  Let that be a lesson to everyone.

French railway workers are striking 2 days in 5 for the next few months in protest against Macron's reforms.  To launch these strikes huge protests were organised in Paris but oh dear the strikers couldn't get there because the trains weren't running due to strike action.

stormy weather

Last evening there was a huge storm, lightning,  wind and torrential rain in Agra. This morning the devastation was clear. No power, 50 dead and hundreds of trees down. On the way to the taj mahal  I could see crushed cars, flooded streets  and so many trees.   Then out of all this destruction I arrived at the taj mahal. It doesn't matter how many pictures you see  they cannot compare to seeing this exquisite building rising up above you.  I have waited so long to see it and  it  is far better than I could have imagined.
