Happy New Year USA

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, it did.  Any other democracy, whose leader incited insurrection, would be immediately removed from office but the USA laws and constitution make everything so long and complicated.  Trump could resign but he needs time to pardon Giuliano and his sons, let alone try to pardon himself, so it is not likely.

It was shameful to watch the Capitol being invaded with no intervention  from the security services.  Had they been told to stay away by the President or by those who didn't want to go against Trump's supporters?  While all the drama is going on, nearly 5000 people are dying every day in the USA from Covid 19.  While Trump was swiftly condemned by many leaders around the world, Putin and Erdogan gloated and Boris Johnson reluctantly called out Trump on his second try.

Vaccinations are being given out everywhere, millions in the UK, hundreds of thousands in Germany and other countries and in France they reached the dizzying heights of 46,000.  Apparently France's bureaucracy meant that everyone had to be examined by their GP, a form had to be completed, and the ok given by the GP that someone could receive the vaccine.  The other night Macron said that people would be able to register, by telephone or online, their interest in receiving the vaccine.  We are still waiting for the details.

I fell off the  draining board the other day onto a rather hard tiled floor.  Because of the stupid design of my kitchen the only way I can clean the windows is by climbing onto the draining board and when I stepped back onto the chair I had placed there, it slid away across the floor and I fell unhindered.  Amazingly, although initially hurt the discomfort soon went away and the next day I felt nothing.  Someone could make a fortune if they started a window cleaning business.  If I am confined for much longer I may take up my own  challenge.

I ordered a cover for the bikes from Amazon before Christmas and it was duee to be deliverred on 6 January, which Amazon clearly thinks it was as they took money andd asked me to review the producct.  Using the tracking facility I see that my package left dKent went to Swansea and bacj to Kent, where dit presumably still is as no further information is given.  My son sent me a package in October which never arrived, nor did the one he sent to Norway.  My sister's oiChristmas car disappeared somewhere and will my son get his birthday card that I sent in Decembeer?

I'm Free

After being incarcerated in my son's house waiting for the results of the day 2 test I was finally allowed out today.  I went to Chichester and was saddened by the number of familiar shops that have disappeared from the town centre.  Bognor is the same.  You wouldn't die of thirst in either town though as the number of cafes has increased.  Both town centres were busy making it difficult to keep a safe distance from others but many people were wearing masks in the street. I was pulled over by Customs in Caen.  As I opened the trunk of the car one of the officers asked me if I was carrying goods.  'Yes,' I replied, ' French Champagne and French wine'  They nodded approvingly and waved me away. During my 3 days in the house, I have cleaned, filed all their paperwork, mended the shower, cooked dinner and tried watching television, the latter being totally uninspiring.  The news consists of covid, travel restrictions, forbidden Christmas parties...

D day lasts 3 days

This morning, with my head full of things I still have to do, I got on the tram and forgot to scan my ticket.  The inspector got on 2 stops later and said I had to pay 45€ for this lapse.  Why can't I scan it now?  a reasonable question in my opinion, was met with scorn, so I  paid up.  On the tram back from the hospital there she was again and checked my ticket with glee.  While she was doing that a young man got on, sat down  and did not show any sign of even having a ticket, let alone scanning one.   The inspector passed him by without a second glance.   Today is the last day for packing and organising.  Tomorrow the removal company will arrive at 6am to take it all away and put it in storage.  Tomorrow night I will sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor and Thursday I go to the hospital to be nuked for the last time.  The sleeping bag is the one that saved me from hypothermia when a friend and I were lost for ...
