I decided to go to a ladies lunch that was advertised in English. It was in a village south of where I live, an area I know nothing about. There were 30 British women, not one of them spoke any French and they all live either in the same village or in villages close by. In this environment they have a great social life, mostly to do with alcohol as far as I could gather and are totally ignorant about French life, mixing only with each other. None of them had applied for a Resident's Permit because they have convinced themselves that they won't need one and anyway they don't understand what papers are needed because they can't read French. They said that the French nothing will change after Brexit because the French love having the British here. Really?
I have been doing some research on couples who are going back to the UK or are thinking about it. Of the 12 couples I have asked, all the wives want to return to the UK and only one of the men wishes to. What does that tell us?
